Cleaning Challenge Update- Weeks 1-3

Ok….so I need to get my behind in gear. Here is the progress I've made on the cleaning challenge:
Green: done
Yellow: In progress/ some progress made
Red: still needs to be done
Week 1: Bedrooms

Closet & Drawer Systems
  • Empty
  • Clean shelves & drawers with all-purpose cleaner
  • Sort Clothing- discard any unwanted items, my target number is 10-15
  • Put clothing back- I organize my hanging shirts by sleeve length, then by color. Pants go by color. Skirts, suits and athletic pants go in the bottom right hand side. Shirts in drawers get rolled as opposed to folded- fits much better that way! Sweaters are folded and place on the above shelves, again by color.
Bed

  • Remove all bedding and launder
  • Remove everything under the bed- sort, giveaway pile, organize [we have a platform bed…nothing underneath!!]
  • Slide bed over and vacuum underneath [see above comment]
  • Dust & clean fan and or light fixture
  • Dust entire bed frame
  • Move bed back
  • Replace under bed items...or not if they found their way to the garbage!
Room- top to bottom
  • Nightstands & Shelves- dust, organize, purge- keep them simple- treat yourself with a vase of fresh flowers!
  • Clean windows- including sills, frame, edges, etc.
  • Vacuum [with my new fancy- schmancy Lightweight Dyson Ball Vacuum J]
Week 2: Bathrooms [bad week]
Shower/Tub
  • Remove all products
  • Scrub the tub
  • Organize and replace products
  • Use a daily shower cleaner to keep up on grime
Sink/Vanity
  • Remove everything from the counter tops, drawers and cupboards
  • Clean with an all purpose cleaner- including the counter, insides of drawers and cupboards
  • Organize all the goodies you removed- toss at least 3 items
  • Put all the items back
Toilet
  • Use toilet cleaner for the bowl (A great green cleaner that deodorizes as well is to just pour 2 cups of vinegar in the bowl, let sit for a couple hours or overnight, scrub with a brush and flush)
  • Use an all purpose cleaner for the exterior, don't forget the top and handle
Week 3: KITCHEN [made some great progress here]

Cupboards
  • Interiors organized (if they aren't already)
  • Exteriors cleaned with all purpose cleaner
Counters
  • All items removed and cleaned
  • Counters washed- don't forget the edges!
  • All items replaced- but for simplicities sake, try to not put back at least one item- keep the counters as decluttered as possible!
Appliances
  • Exteriors scrubbed
  • Fridge- remove food items, discard expired items, wash shelves and drawers, replace food in organized manner (did this a couple weeks ago!)
Floors
  • Sweep
  • Mop
  • Afterward- sweep daily
Misc.
  • Clean Kitchen Table
  • Clean Garbage- inside and out
So-my plans for the weekend include: cleaning the bathrooms and finishing up the bedrooms. Then, I'm ready to start week 4 on Monday! Check out Molly's blog here to join the challenge for a happy, clean house!
